Damien Memorial Announces New Athletic Director

Damien Memorial School is proud to announce they have hired Shawn Sueoka as their Athletic Director effective immediately. Sueoka comes to Damien from Chaminade University of Honolulu where he was the Coordinator for Planned-Giving, Stewardship & Athletics.  Sueoka began at Chaminade in 2017 as Events Manager and Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics. 

Sueoka holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Chaminade, and a B.S. in Exercise Science from Northern Arizona University. His experience runs deep in athletics spanning many years as he worked for Spectrum Sports, and Scoring Live with both in the capacity of spotter/statistician/reporter and related tasks beginning in 2013. Additionally, he has been a City & County Recreation Director and a Physical Education Instructor at Hokulani Elementary. He was even a water boy for Damien School as a youngster with many friend and family connections to Damien that led him down this path.

The Roosevelt grad loves sports and is particularly excited about the opportunity to share in the rich tradition that Damien has,and hopes to contribute right away to the program. “I love sports and am honored to help the students, coaches, parents, and the Damien Ohana take this program to the next level. I have prepared for this opportunity my whole life and I am super motivated to build on the greatness that exists,” said Sueoka.

Damien Alum and School President Arnold Laanui said, “We are so happy to have someone of Shawn’s caliber join our team.  He has a lot of invaluable experience, and an awesome attitude combined with the love of the school to jump in and take things to the next level.  Our students, coaches, and Damien Ohana are looking forward to great things from Shawn.”

“I like what Damien is all about.  Their mission is to take students and give them greater opportunity, and help them get to college and find success in life. They provide lots of extra-curricular enrichment opportunities as part of an outstanding education, and athletics is a big part of a great education where you learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and life lessons.  That is why I’m here,” said Sueoka.
