Heroic Actions Owed to Recent CPR Training from Valedictorian Alexander Gardner, Class of 2023

Damien High School is proud to share the story of how two of our dedicated staff members, Mrs. Lila Yewchuck and Ms. Shawna Lau Kong, successfully utilized their CPR training to save a life during a recent community event. Thanks to the invaluable skills taught to them by recent alumnus Alexander Gardner '23 and his father from the American Red Cross, Mrs. Yewchuck and Ms. Lau Kong were able to provide crucial assistance to an unconscious individual until emergency medical technicians arrived.

This remarkable incident highlights the importance of CPR training and the impact it can have in real-life situations. Alexander Gardner, who graduated as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2023, and his father generously devoted their time to teach CPR classes at Damien High School during the past school year. Their emphasis on the immediate initiation of CPR and the use of an AED proved to be instrumental in equipping our staff members with the necessary skills to respond effectively in an emergency.

Damien High School is immensely grateful for the efforts of Alexander Gardner and his father in promoting CPR education and ensuring the readiness of our staff. We take pride in the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by Mrs. Yewchuck and Ms. Lau Kong, who exemplify the commitment to student safety that is deeply ingrained in our school community.
